Guidelines for Entering Information into the ASSE Consultant’s Directory
In an effort to present a professional and uniform appearance among all consultant listings in this Directory, we are providing the following guidelines to help you to complete your listing. Please adhere to these guidelines, particularly with respect to punctuation instructions. Listings not following these guidelines will be returned to the submitter for editing before being included in the online version. Thank you for your cooperation.
Start to edit your listing by selecting the “Edit Consultant” tab.
(Note: the “Edit Billing/Contact Information” link is where you can change your address and phone number. You can also change your password from this screen. In order to change your email address, you must contact WSI, at (856) 673-0669 or by email mchadha@wsitopwebdesigners.com .
Email Address: Enter one email address only
Password: Enter a password (you will be provided with a password upon registering to be listed in the Directory but you will have an opportunity on the “Edit Consultant” screen to change it if you prefer).
Confirm Password: Rewrite your password
Consultant Information
Name: Enter your first name only (do not enter any prefixes or suffixes such as Mr., Dr., CSP, etc.)
Last Name: Enter your last name only (do not enter any suffixes or prefixes here such as Mr., Dr., CSP, etc.)
Title: Enter Your Job Title
Company: Enter Your Company Name (only one company name per entry )
Certifications: Enter the letters denoting your professional certifications and designations that you would like to have appear after your name such as CSP, CHMM, CIH, etc.
Street Address: Enter the address where you would like to be contacted by potential clients
City: Same as above
State/Province: Same as above (use pull down menu)
Country: Use pull down menu
Phone: Enter one phone number in this format xxx-xxx-xxxx (Example: 847-699-2929)
Consultants PS Member? Enter Yes or No
If you are a current member of the Consultants Practice Specialty, check yes. If you are not, check no. Please note, listings in the ASSE Consultants Directory are available to ASSE members only. Members of the Consultants Practice Specialty receive an additional discount.
URL: Enter your web page address if you have a web page
Degree: Enter your most recent degree by either writing out the full name (such as Master of Science) or the appropriate abbreviation (M.S.).
*Note: there are two separate degree fields so that two different degrees (such as a B.S. and a M.S. can be entered).
Field of Study: Enter your Major field of study (such Civil Engineering, Nursing, Safety Sciences, etc.)
School: Enter the name of the University or College you attended
Years: Please write out the full 4 digits of the year the degree was granted.
Professional Designation: It is suggested that you write the abbreviated version of your designations followed by the designation fully spelled out. For example, CSP – Certified Safety Professional. All of the items listed in the Certification section should also be listed here but you also have the opportunity to list additional items that were not listed in Certifications.
*Note: There are 4 Professional Designation fields. Please enter each professional designation you hold separately.
Expertise Areas:
You may enter your areas of expertise in this section in either paragraph form or by listing various expertise areas (one or two words). If you choose to write in paragraph form, each sentence should be separated by a period (.) If you list many areas separately, each area should be separated by a semi-colon (;).
Organizations/Memberships:
Each organization you belong to should be listed here. Each organization listed should be separated by a semi-colon (;). It is suggested that you spell out each organization’s name, such as writing “American Society of Safety Engineers” instead of “ASSE”.
Elected Offices/Appointments:
List each office you currently hold followed by the name of the organization. The office or appointment should be followed by a dash (-) which should be followed by the organization name. Each organization name should be followed by a semi-colon (;).
For example: President – Sunny State Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers; Secretary – Sunny State Chamber of Commerce;
*Please note: You should also enter any Standards activities here.
Awards:
It is suggested that you enter the name of award followed by the name of the organization giving the award and the year it was awarded. The year should be preceded by a dash (-). If you are listing more than one award, the listings should be separated by a semi-colon (;). For example, “Safety Professional of the Year” awarded by the Sunny State Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers - 2005;
Biography:
Please enter your biographical information either in paragraph form with each sentence punctuated appropriately. If you prefer to use short sentences or phrases, please separate each with a semi-colon (;).
Keywords:
The keywords are what helps search engines to find you and your listing. When a visitor to the online Directory searches, the keywords are not searched. These words are strictly for search engines such as Google, Yahoo, etc. You may use the pull-down menus to select keywords or you may type in your own in the open space titled “Other Keywords” or you may do both. When typing in keywords, please separate each by a comma (,) only.
Miscellaneous Notes:
This section will not appear in your Directory listing. If you have any questions or comments for the Directory Administrators, write them here.
Hint: Because there is no spell checking option in the Web Directory, it is suggested that you copy your entire Directory listing once you are finished completing all fields into Word or other word processing program and run a spell check. If spelling errors are noted, you can go back and edit your listing. If you are unsure how to do this, follow the general steps below:
1. First highlight your entire listing.
2. After it is highlighted, right click on the highlighted area and select “copy”
3. Open a new Word document and either hold the Control Key (<ctrl>)and the letter “V” at the same time or otherwise paste into your document.
4. After your listing is copied into the Word document, select spell check from the Tools menu.
5. Any spelling errors will be highlighted.
